Approximately 10% of students per year group have special educational needs. DIS is an inclusive school and we have specialist learning support staff to accommodate a maximum of 10% SEN students to each year group in the Secondary School. The numbers or a little more flexible in the Primary school and will generally be above 10% SEN. |

Deira International School (DIS) offers a high-quality international education within an atmosphere that is both sensitive to and consistent with, UAE culture and tradition. The 80,000 sqm campus is a uniquely designed, purpose-built facility which includes libraries, art rooms, vocal and instrumental music rooms, computer and science laboratories, design technology rooms, business studies centre, indoor gymnasium, swimming pool and a large sports field. DIS broadly follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales enhanced by the best features of international education particularly the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. The school accepts students aged from 3 to 18 (Early Years - Year 13). Senior students take the Cambridge Board IGCSE examinations in Year 11. In Years 12 and 13 students undertake highly competitive International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or International Baccalaureate Career-Related Certificate (IBCC) Programme which combines the richness of the IB Curriculum with vocational training experiences. These highly regarded and internationally recognized pre-university qualifications, allow them the possibility of worldwide university entrance. All students learn Arabic and are also expected to participate in sport, community service and field trips. Muslim students follow courses in Arabic and Islamic Studies as required by the Ministry of Education. Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL) is taught across the school. Specialised support is provided to students for whom English is a second language, students who excel and those with mild learning difficulties. English is the language of instruction. French and Spanish are also offered. Outdoor Education is a significant part of the learning ethos at the school. Students are provided many opportunities to participate on camps and various expeditions abroad. DIS is a member of the British Schools in the Middle East Association (BSME) and the Middle East IB Association (MEIBA).
